Worktops and splashbacks are one of the fastest-growing areas for Häfele and 2020 looks set to be no different. We spoke to Product Group Manager, Andrew Billingham, to find out what’s planned for the year ahead.

Tell us about your experience and how long you’ve been at Häfele

“I’ve been part of Häfele for nine years now. I started in inventory, before I moved into buying and now, I look after worktops, splashbacks and surfaces.

“Before I came to Häfele I worked in manufacturing so it’s a useful background to have for this role.”

What’s planned in worktops, splashbacks and surfaces at kbb?

“Historically, this product group has been a smaller part of our business, but it’s a real growth area for us. In fact, AluSplash®, an aluminium-based splashback system, has become one of the fastest-growing products we have ever launched.

“Due to its success, we’re going to launch two new AluSplash® colours at kbb, a vibrant red and teal, which means there are now 12 seamless, high gloss colourways to choose from. The team will be available to educate those who aren't familiar with AluSplash® about how it's simple and quick for fitters to install, while giving the beautiful, sleek finish that homeowners want. It's also a more cost-effective option than materials such as glass, easier to keep clean and a more hygienic alternative to tiles.

We’ll also showcase a new worktop called Minerva® Calcutta for the first time at kbb. While manufactured from man-made acrylic, this worktop has veining all the way through so it’s a great way for designers and installers to offer an on-trend marble effect but at a more cost-effective price point. It’s also much lighter than natural marble so is lots easier to install and doesn’t require specialist tools to fit.

At kbb, visitors will be able to see some really industry-changing products from Häfele and importantly, will get to experience and handle them close up.

What else can we expect to see in 2020?

Black worktops have been a top choice until recently, but now consumers are instead opting for lighter colours and more natural finishes such as timber, veined and stone finishes. Because of this, we expect Minerva® Calcutta to be really popular this year, as well as our solid grade timber laminates.

“Minimalism is also dictating trends in worktops, with consumers looking for thinner styles, and we will continue to see this in 2020. In response, we’ll have 12.5mm solid grade laminate options as well as a more standard 20mm & 25mm and over depths in solid surface available across a range of our worktops.”
