How To Measure Sliding Wardrobe Doors

Sliding wardrobe doors can transform your client’s living space while saving space. There are many different styles, material options, and bespoke opportunities to be explored. When it comes to specification, the job begins with accurate measurements.

Here, we explore the ins and outs of how to successfully measure for sliding wardrobe doors.

Before Purchasing the Doors

Now, this probably isn’t news to you, but we had to say it. When you are looking to fit sliding doors to your client’s wardrobe, measuring should be the first step!

This step is vital to narrow down your search of doors and styles that are on offer for the size you are working with.

What Do I Need?

Luckily, there are only 2 items that you need to measure your client’s space with.

  • A Pencil
  • Measuring tape

Top Tip: Measure the same space twice and ensure you get the same number.

If there are any discrepancies, start again from zero.

How Do I Measure for Sliding Wardrobe Doors?

1. Start by measuring the depth of the opening that has been allocated for the wardrobe.

We recommend a minimum of 650mm for the wardrobe’s depth, to keep the items inside protected once the door has been shut. Measure the top and bottom of this space. Typically, the depth does not vary in wardrobes. However, if you’re working on avspace where that does happen, there is no need to worry.

When measuring for doors, it is important that the heigh and widthare consistent. However, the depth can change.

2. Now you will need to measure the height.

Measure both sides and the middle of your space from ceiling to floor. These three points are key to ensuring that there are no inconsistencies in height. If the height does change across the space, you will, most likely, have to explore bespoke options for your project.

3. Next, measure the width.

There are 2 locations we recommend, both the upper middle and lower middle of the allocated space, measured from left to right. This measurement will be used to calculate the size and quantity of doors you will need to use. If your clients already have doors in mind with the specs available, you will need to consider this when making the height and width measurements.

Top Tips

1. If you or your client has an idea of the number of doors they would like, make sure to consider this in your measurements.

For example, a track set sliding wardrobe could have the traditional 2 doors or a more modern looking 3 doors that slide alternately. This often comes down to door size or personal preference.

2. Always consider the weight of the doors when handling your measurements. We do not want any doors falling or breaking the walls.

3. Use Häfele’s trusted wardrobe sliding tracks and runners for a high-quality installation.
