Versatile drawer solutions: why Matrix Box is always the answer

Whether it’s clever understairs storage, hidden-away kitchen larders or industrial settings and high-end retail environments, drawers play a key role in solving modern-day storage challenges – so it’s little surprise that there’s growing demand for versatile solutions.

At Häfele, sales of Matrix Box have gone from strength to strength since its launch in 2020. The drawer range has been designed to help manufacturers turn around projects more quickly and efficiently, so that customers can achieve the highly-functional, great-looking spaces they desire no matter where or why the drawers are being installed.

What is the Matrix Box range?

There are three products in the range – Matrix Box S, Matrix Box A and Matrix Box P – and each is suitable for use in kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms and home offices, industrial environments and more. Each also has a variety of sizes and finishes on offer, meaning there’s a solution for every project – whether it’s residential or commercial – and every taste.

With load capacities ranging from 30kg to 50kg, Matrix Box is brilliantly designed for heavy duty drawer applications such as internal kitchen drawer stacks, with either rectangular or round rails, with solid, or even glass effect drawer sides available for complete freedom of choice.

The drawer boxes are available in a variety of widths, depths and heights; for example, they suit bathroom vanity units which tend to be shallower and shorter in depth, work well in deeper pan drawers for kitchens, and are designed for use in retail or hospitality settings for maximum storage space, too. Made of steel, with smooth and synchronised running equipment, the drawers can also keep sound to a minimum in spaces where quietness is important, such as a bedroom, child’s nursery or a library.

And though the range is versatile, there’s universal functionality within it, too, with a soft close finish across all three products. Plus, Matrix Box is covered by the Häfele Lifetime Guarantee of up to 25 years, offering confidence in the quality of every single drawer box.

So, which is the right Matrix Box for your project?

Matrix Box S

Matrix Box S is our standard twin-walled, side runner, soft close drawer system. It’s available in five different depths ranging from 270mm up to 500mm and has full extension runners with a 35kg load capacity. As with all products in the range, Matrix Box S has been tested to LGA standards and 80,000 cycles in a commercial setting, meaning the system is ideal for even the toughest of applications.

With easy installation at the forefront of its design, the Matrix Box S is a favourite for installers and end users alike. All adjustments can be made from the inside of the drawer wall, which can then be discreetly hidden with a cover cap, for a completely seamless finish.

Matrix Box S is available in three colours – white, anthracite and grey – and is available as an internal drawer option across all colours. It can be used in standard kitchen fit outs and in bespoke kitchens, as the drawer base, back and front selected can be cut to any size and still be compatible with the Matrix Box drawer sides and runners. Drawer bases and back are available from Häfele.

Matrix Box A

Matrix Box A is our advanced slim walled drawer system. While twin walled drawers house a runner in the drawer side, thin walled drawer runners sit under the drawer itself; with sides of just 13mm, there is more useable space available within the drawer.

This Box has a load capacity of 30kg and is available in three different heights: 89m, 128mm and 175mm, making it well suited to bedroom and bathroom projects which typically require smaller drawers than kitchens. However, just as an 89mm Matrix Box A could be used to house accessories like jewellery and watches, it could work just as well in a kitchen as a cutlery drawer, or in a medical setting – like a dentist’s office – to store small equipment. The 128mm and 175mm options can also be used as internal kitchen drawers to make up a stacked larder system.

The various drawer heights, a push-to-open option and three colours – white, grey and anthracite – make Matrix Box A a versatile and option-rich drawer system. And not only does Matrix A offer easy installation and tool-free removal, the system also boasts 4D adjustment for complete control of fine detail movement, giving the perfect finish.

Matrix P

Matrix Box P is our premium offering in the Matrix range, the pinnacle of our twin-walled drawer design and engineering, and the ultimate choice for manufacturers, designers, installers and end users.

With a wealth of premium options, such as tower, locking and sink drawer options. Matrix Box P brings maximum versatility to drawer solutions. This system also boasts added functionality, such as over-extension runner options, a load capacity of up to 50kg, and is the only drawer in the range that can offer both push-to-open and soft-close functionality, meaning they’re suitable for handle less kitchens.

Of particular note, Matrix P offers a locking system, lending itself to situations where security is important – such as an office or medical setting. Available in grey, white, anthracite and silver, internal drawer fronts can be selected to match the drawer sides, which are available in either solid or glass finishes. It’s compatible with bases of 16mm, while its modular system structure suits a variety of matching accessories such as internal drawer panels, bin systems, drawer inserts and handle-free drawer technology.

Speedy installation is at the centre of Matrix P. The Matrix P drilling jig, for example, significantly speeds up drawer runner fitting; once lined up against the carcass fascia at the right height for the chosen runner, furniture installers can pre-drill holes using a countersink drill bit. Likewise, a fascia alignment jig helps locate the fascia fitting into the back of the drawer front. The jig has a ratchet function, allowing users to tap the drawer front top for easy and quick adjustment. When the installer is happy with the alignment, they simply need to tap the drawer again front-on to make drill hole impressions. Matrix P can also be ordered as an assembled piece via Häfele to Order, to make installation even more efficient.

Complementary accessories

The Matrix Box range offers versatility in terms of its functionality but is also designed to ensure it can embed seamlessly to the style and theme of any room.

In a kitchen for example, where worktops, handles, and doors might top the end user’s priorities, Matrix Box can be teamed with accessories to meet their individual tastes. Within Häfele’s Aspekt cabinet door range are products which can be selected as drawer fronts to match the wider kitchen aesthetic, while the Matrix Box handle jig enables installers to perfectly align any of Häfele’s extensive handles and knobs to the drawer front. Together, the handles and drawer fronts makes up countless different partnerships which can be teamed with various splashbacks from the AluSplash range to create a bespoke kitchen look.

Installers are facing increased demand to deliver customer designs faster while maintaining high levels of quality or functionality – with higher expectations than ever on drawer design. Matrix Box has been designed to meet all criteria; manufacturers and installer is empowered to complete their projects more effectively, while the end user is presented with a drawer system which looks fantastic, suits their chosen style and performs to the highest Häfele quality standards. Simply, in Matrix Box, there is product solution for every need, every application and every requirement.
