Choosing the right surface for your kitchen worktop
Worktops are potentially the most used element within what is undoubtedly the busiest part of any home – the kitchen. They need to be practical & functional but meet the needs of a design brief too – whether that be bold in colour and style or perhaps a muted tone to create a semblance of calm in the busy space it can be.
Perhaps the design requires complimentary styles and colours or even contrasting to create a wow factor island which is harmonious yet stand out! With so many trends that come and go here's a short list
The Marvel of Marble
Evoking a sense of luxury in the home, its timeless – and as far as trends go, marble is around to stay like it has been for decades! Marble worktops tend to suit most cabinetry finishes and styles and can be used to compliment and elevate designs against a plain cabinet backdrop of muted colours or even be used to bring balance against darker cabinetry colour cabinet colours.
Minimalism
Simple, modern and minimalist aesthetics are still very much on trend for kitchens, what could be seen as a potentially conservative design palette they allow the owner to add their own flair with a colour palette of accessories – or even a pop of colour with a splashback to compliment the space.
With light or dark block colour surfaces the space can be balanced and clean and create an effective space to work in whilst remaining neutral enough to provide a minimal backdrop to the space.
Warm textures
We are seeing the celebration of imperfect beauty and organic forms and materials within the kitchen space, by layering materials like wood, stone and marble it allows for depth and striking texture. When they are coupled with earthy tones like ochre, green or peach and used up against coarse materials like exposed brickwork you can achieve a more sensory and immersive experience within the kitchen space. Rustic but contemporary and perhaps a little maximalist in terms of the aesthetic when accessories are added to the overall space.
